Gordon Snell is a much-loved children’s novelist, and is also a broadcaster, playwright, and author of several books for adults. In total, he has written over thirty children’s books in verse and in prose, has penned song lyrics and librettos, and worked as a writer and interviewer for numerous radio and television programs.
He is the author of the ‘Ballygandon Gang’ mystery series, which includes Dangerous Treasure (1994), The Library Ghost (2002), The Deadly Camera (2005), and the most recent addition, The Ballygandon Giants (2006). His many other books for children include Lottie’s Letter (1997), Twelve Days: A Christmas Countdown (2002), the popular Tina and the Tooth Fairy (2005), and most recently The Supermarket Ghost (2007). He is also the author of The King of Quizzical Island, illustrated by David McKee (creator of Elmer the Elephant), which is due to be reissued in 2008 with a new sequel, The Return of the King of Quizzical Island.
His books are much loved on both sides of the Atlantic, and his writing for adults includes Oh, Canadians! (1997), the first in a series of illustrated historical rhymes, and a number of reference works. He has also edited poetry and short story collections, including Thicker Than Water: Coming-Of-Age Stories by Irish and Irish American Writers (2001). He lives in Dublin with his wife, best-selling author Maeve Binchy.
