Marcia Douglas was born in England and grew up in Jamaica, and is a leading voice in Caribbean writing. She is the author of the novels Madam Fate (1999) and Notes from a Writer's Book of Cures and Spells (2005) as well as a collection of poetry, Electricity Comes to Cocoa Bottom (1999), which received a Poetry Book Society Recommendation in the UK. Her work has appeared in anthologies and journals internationally, including The Oxford Book of Caribbean Verse. She is currently Professor of Creative Writing at North Carolina State University, and lives in Broomfield, Colorado with her daughter Avani.
