Jacqueline Winspear is the author of the highly acclaimed Maisie Dobbs detective novels. She was born and raised in England, and worked in publishing before moving to the United States in 1990. She is a regular contributer to educational journals, has published articles in women’s magazines and also recorded her essays for KQED radio in San Francisco. Jacqueline’s first novel was the hugely successful Maisie Dobbs (2003), a bestseller on both sides of the Atlantic. Its many accolades include New York Times Notable Book 2003, a Publishers’ Weekly Top Ten Mystery 2003, and a BookSense Top Ten selection. The novel has been nominated for seven awards, including the Edgar for Best Novel (only the second time a first novel has been nominated in this category), and won the prestigious Agatha Award for Best First Novel, the Macavity Award for Best First Novel, and the Alex Award (presented annually by the American Library Association). The sequel, Birds of a Feather (2004), was also a BookSense Top Ten pick, garnering nominations for a number of mystery writers’ awards. The next two Maisie Dobbs novels, Pardonable Lies (2005) and Messenger of Truth (2006), have continued Maisie’s popularity, and rights to develop a television series based on Maisie Dobbs and subsequent books have recently been acquired by a UK production company. A new title, called An Incomplete Revenge, is due out in summer 2008. Jacqueline currently divides her time between Ojai, California and the San Francisco Bay Area, and is also a regular visitor to the United Kingdom and Europe.
