Qiu Xiaolong is the bestselling author of the Inspector Chen Mysteries. Raised in Shanghai and now a member of the Chinese Writers’ Association, he has published poetry, translations and criticism extensively in China. He has lived in the US since 1989, and has had work published in literary magazines, journals and anthologies. The first Inspector Chen book, Death of a Red Heroine (2000), was a great success on both sides of the Atlantic, and the subsequent books have all been well-received by critics and readers alike: A Loyal Character Dancer (2002), When Red is Black (2004), and A Case of Two Cities (2006). A new book, called Red Mandarin Dress, was published early in 2008 by Sceptre. 

Qiu Xiaololong has also produced a collection of poetry, Lines Around China (2003), and has been the recipient of the Missouri Biennial Award, the Prairie Schooner Readers’ Choice Award, a Yaddo and a Ford Foundation Fellowship. He lives in St. Louis with his wife and daughter.
