Grace Thompson is the prolific Welsh author of over thirty-five novels, much-loved and borrowed from libraries throughout the country. She was born in Barry, South Wales, and after qualifying as an NNEB she worked in schools and with children in care for many years. Her first book was Dirty Nelly (1988), and with it she established a gift for crafting touching tales of everyday life, love and secret heartache. She is now the author of many well-loved sagas, including the Valley series (1989-1993), the Pendragon Island series (1996-1999), the Holidays at Home series (2000-2002), and the ongoing Badger’s Brook series, which began with The House by the Brook (2004). She has written a number of books as Kay Christopher, but now writes exclusively under her own name. Sir Harry Secombe wrote a foreword to An Army of Smiles (2003), a story about the NAAFI in World War II, and her recent books include Time to Move On (2007) and The Runaway (2008), both published by Robert Hale.
