Beresford, Lucy PDF Print E-mail
Lucy Beresford is a qualified psychotherapist and broadcaster, and her first novel, Something I'm Not, was published by Duckworth in February 2008. Described by Jeremy Vine as “deft and penetrating, the can’t-put-down read of the year”, it is a sharp, contemporary novel that tells the story of a career-woman who decides not to have children. Glamorous, sophisticated and successful, through her friends and family the heroine looks at the way the past affects the decisions people make.

In her clinical capacity, Lucy specialises in emotional and psychological issues, especially relationships, sexual health and addictions. She is one of the country’s leading experts on sex addiction and sexual anorexia, and is very experienced at working with people in the public eye such as politicians, sportsmen, and celebrities. In particular she focuses on celebrity-specific issues such as self-belief, identity crises, the pressures of fame, or mental illness triggered by physical injury. A member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), she works at The Priory Hospital in Roehampton and in private practice in central London. Lucy's aim is to demystify mental illness for a lay audience, and she has written extensively about mental health issues for UK newspapers and magazines.

Lucy is one of the presenters of the Literary Review’s annual Bad Sex award, and is well known as a reviewer of contemporary fiction. She reviews regularly for The Spectator, Literary Review and the Sunday Telegraph, and has been published in the Daily Telegraph, the Daily Mail, and the Times Literary Supplement. She has worked as a script advisor on a number of Bollywood films, and is on the board of Developing Artists, an organisation that supports and extends the skills of artists in developing countries. She is also a regular expert guest on radio and television, in particular BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4’s Broadcasting House.
