Richard Ehrlich is a writer, journalist and broadcaster specialising in food and drink. Born and educated in the USA, he moved to London in the 1970s and has been writing freelance ever since. He was a food columnist for the Guardian from 1989 to 2004, and drinks columnist for the Independent on Sunday from 1997 to 2006. His work at the Independent on Sunday won him two coveted Glenfiddich Awards, for Drinks Writer in 1998 and Bar Writer in 2003. He has also served as Food Editor of Cosmopolitan and She magazines, regularly contributes articles on food and drink to both consumer and professional magazines, and has appeared on Radio 4’s Food Programme and other programmes for the BBC. He writes for The Financial Times, and for Time Out, where he is also a contributor to the annual Time Out Eating and Drinking Guide. He has acted as a judge in all the major UK food and drink writing and broadcasting competitions, and served until March 2006 as Chairman of the Guild of Food Writers.
Richard has written a number of cookbooks, including The Cosmopolitan After Work Cookbook (1992), The Lazy Cook (1993), and most recently, The Perfect… (2004), collected food notes from his witty and popular Guardian column. He is currently working on a new book, provisionally entitled Green Kitchen, to be published by Kyle Cathie.
